MAY 19 2008
hello everyone,
firstly, i want to thank you for your support this year, it's been a great experience and a lot of fun and i hope to continue to be involved in wdcv as long as i can. i hope you've enjoyed listening to my show as much as i've enjoyed putting it together and broadcasting it, as cliche as that sounds.
anyways, i've been thinking a lot about the future of the show, as far as next semester. i think i'm going to drop the themed-show theme. it's been a good challenge but i also feel that it's very limiting, and there are a lot of explorations i'd like to make without having to worry about things fitting in or not fitting in or whatever. the result is going to be a show with a lot more variety every show, rather than over the course of the entire semester, and i'll also get to play a lot of things that i want to and can't necessarily fit into a theme. that's something i'm really excited about because oh man do i have some awesome music to pull from. i also think that it'll make for a more organic and sincere show--it'll be what i genuinely want to play and listen to and what i want you all to listen to as well. often when i was making the themed shows i felt really limited and like i was searching for songs to fit in. and i mean, i think themes will probably come out organically--if i want to play a lot of songs about friendships or a lot of twee that week or whatever--but ultimately i think having an anarchic rather than a structured format will produce a stronger and truer product.
obviously i've put a lot of thought into this decision, so please nobody be disappointed. it won't be all that different in the end, and it'll most likely be better. i haven't decided yet whether i'm going to keep the same name or pick a new one--having a new name would mean moving a lot of stuff, like this website, the facebook group, etc--but that might also be a good thing, and it would also be an artistic clean slate which is kind of what i might need. plus i have a very sweet name i want to use. it's a pun. i'll warn you about that right now.
so that's my announcement. i hope everyone's summers are awesome and you have time to listen to some great music. i've been getting into a lot of world music and old jazz and swing lately. i'm in love with django reinhardt. also i've been listening to a lot of punk rock again which is lovely. i'm hoping over the summer i can go to a lot of shows and meet a lot of new bands as well--and if so, i'm sure you'll hear about them.
i have a wonderful extended summer mix i'll put up here for you in a few days to tide you over until september, but i can't post it right yet. instead i will leave you with this:
